Introduction...
If you're here then you already know who we are and have some idea what we're up to! Marc and James are taking part in the 2011 Scumrun. This is an annual event whereby around 100 vehicles of all shapes and sizes take part in a charity rally across Europe. On average we'll be driving somewhere in the region of 3-4000 miles, over at least four European countries in four days. Easy huh? well the snag to it is that the car must cost no more than £500 and the event organisers don't actually tell you where you're going until each morning.

The vehicle...
The car is purchased... it's a 1995 Mitsubishi FTO GPX. For those of you that are interested it's a 2.0 litre, V6, double overhead cam, 24 valve, front wheel drive, 200 BHP, 20.4kgf/m @ 6000 rpm torque, with a four speed tiptronic gearbox. It features Mitsubishi's MIVEC technology (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control) the brand name of Mitsubishi's variable valve timing technology. It should reach 0-60 mph in around 6-7 seconds and a top speed of around 150 mph (Please let us travel into Germany and onto the Autobahn's) Obviously it'll be be economical and has low CO2 emissions... ;-)

The problems...
The car was a non running wreck when we purchased it for £500 off of Ebay! It needed (at least)... A new windscreen, front and rear discs and pads, Alternator, Battery, Tracking, LOTS of chassis welding, Engine timing, IFS sensor, a new drivers door, front and rear anti roll bar bushes, front link bars and a bloody good service! We put a little bit of effort in and a lot of hunting around for parts and it's now on the road, taxed, MOT'd and insured! Let's just hope that we can keep her running up until and beyond the event! A note worth mentioning is that all of the parts were sourced by us but the majority of the work, servicing and welding was carried out free of charge by Dixon Motorsport (DMS Racing Ltd) who are supporting us by helping us get the car prepared for the event. A huge thankyou to Dixon and his crew for being so helpful and doing so much work!

Dreams Come True is a national charity serving the whole of the UK with the mission of bringing joy to children who are terminally or seriously ill by making their treasured dreams come true. Since the charity was incorporated in 1988 they have fulfilled the dreams of more than 4,500 children with severe and life threatening illnesses such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.

Every year in the UK, 25,000 children require palliative care, many of whom won't make it to adulthood. These children often have little to look forward to beyond continual rounds of hospital visits and sometimes painful treatments, or the prospect of living with a long-term debilitating disease. The work they do delivers a profound impact. It provides them with the delicious pleasure of anticipation, the thrill and excitement of their dream actually coming true, and the lasting joy of wonderful memories to share with their families.
